Late in the evening of the 14th December, a Devon Freewheelers Response Bike was involved in an incident on the North Devon Link Road.

Damaged Bike 1The rider was carrying urgent blood samples to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital when a van braked sharply and suddenly, immediately turning through 90 degrees; blocking the entire carriageway.

The ST1100 Pan European suffered extensive damage in the failed evasive manoeuvre that followed, which also left the rider injured and lying in the road.

The driver of the van, having noticed the plight of our hero on two wheels, sped off into the night – not stopping or calling in to Devon and Cornwall Police to report the accident.

Thankfully, the rider is recovering well from his injuries and plans are being made to repair or replace his damaged bike.

A big 'thank you' to Daniel, our chairman, for literally picking up the pieces with the DFW Land Rover Defender and bike trailer.
