On Saturday 20th July, Devon-based charity Devon Freewheelers visited Sainsbury’s in South Molton to kick off the start of their year-long Local Charity Partnership.

Devon Freewheelers are a group of advanced motorcycle riders who offer their time, skills and expertise free of charge to provide an out of hours emergency response courier service to the NHS right across Devon.

The group were selected by colleagues at Sainsbury’s after a two-week search, which saw customers nominating their favourite charities.

Devon Freewheelers were selected to highlight an important service in the community that, due to their late-night and early-morning hours of operation, many people may not be familiar with.

The charity will now join the store in regular fundraising efforts through to May 2014.Store Manager Leigh Nicholls said: “We’ve had a great response from our customers and we’re delighted to have chosen a charity which many of our customers and colleagues can associate with.

We will now be working closely with Devon Freewheelers to ensure they really benefit from the Local Charity partnership”. The group raised £466 on the day thanks to the generosity of our customers, and we’re already looking forward to our next event!
