Sunday the 27th had me up early in the morning in order to assist with being an outrider ahead of the marathon. There were 3 of us from Devon Freewheelers at the event, myself Paul and Stevie, we joined with 3 members of Plymouth Advanced Motorcyclists which is the local IAM group.

Having all met up at 06:45 by Marsh Mills Sainsbury's we headed to the start point for a briefing and a warming coffee and bacon roll.

The first job we had to do was do a loop of the course as a pre sweep to ensure no problems were going to be encountered... It also meant we knew what the route was which is an important aspect!

With the first loop completed I had to shoot off with Paul in order to pick up an extra radio for one of the marshalls along the route. We got back to the start point with the extra radio just in time for us to set off on the route 15 mins ahead of the runners!

Riding ahead of the runners who were going to be running at an unknown speed was interesting. We had just got to the 3 mile marker when we were told the race had started. We figured that the pace we were doing was about right and kept 3-4 miles ahead of the race.

We were lucky we didn't encounter any vehicles or anyone who could block the route. So an uneventful ride which is good for an event like this.

Having got to the end, it was another coffee and a quick debrief before heading home. Looking at the news stories the race went without any problems and everyone concerned had a good day.
