While this week has been very quiet for me, this Sunday I joined Volunteers from 4 charities together with the management of Drake Circus to attempt to row across the channel on Concept 2 Rowers in the main atrium.

Today Sunday 27th September Devon Freewheelers along with volunteers from Children's Hospice South West, St Luke's Hospice & Cancer Research UK. The aim was to row the equivalent distance from Plymouth to Brittany, a distance of some 201 miles.

Getting into the spirit of it were plenty of willing volunteers and members of the public who were prepared to row in segments of 10 mins, which is a fantastic response for 4 very deserving charities. The event carried on through the day from 10 Am till 4.30 Pm.

Both myself and Steve despite being in full bike gear did our time on the rowers, it's certainly the first time I have rowed in full leathers! Other notables were trainees from HMS Raleigh, Andy Banks who is Tom Daleys trainer took to the rowers and helped to add to mile miles.

A huge Thank you has to go out to the staff of Drake Circus in Plymouth, along with all the donations that have been received. If you missed out on seeing the charities in action don't worry as we will be back in the not to distant future as this is a year of support from Drake Circus.

Virgin Active kindly loaned the rowing machines and provided supervision throughout the day, with our CEO Dan Lavery and his Wife Shelly dropping in and both taking part on the rowers and helping to collect money in the buckets.

A sample of the days tweets are shown below.

Dave joined Devon Freewheelers in Feb 2013, as a rider I am part of the team that keeps the charitys IT working as it should. I also bleed members for articles that we can post on the site. Ride safe everyone.
